Who am I?

I’m Bruce Deakyne, a swimmer turned triathlete. I spent the first 18 years of my life in Delaware before venturing to the University of Colorado Boulder where I spent 4 years studying, swimming for the CU Club team, and avoiding running at all costs.

After a few years in the Seattle area, I chose sunshine and thin air over clouds and lakes and moved back to Boulder.

What is this?

Just a blog, a place for race reports and general musings. Triathletes spend a lot of time inside our own thoughts. It’s tough to hold a conversation with someone when your head’s under water, so here we are.

Why triathlon?

Laugh if you want, but I grew up watching Lance Armstrong’s rise, retirement, and comeback. In 2010, I bought a road bike. In 2012, Lance started racing for a Kona bid and my sister did Lavaman with Team In Training. So following graduation after nearly 2 decades of competitive swimming, triathlon seemed like the natural next step.

I had a blast at Boulder Peak in 2012 and moved to the Seattle Area that fall, where I joined Team Vo2 Multisport. It seemed like everyone I talked to was doing Ironman Canada in 2013, so I hopped on the bandwagon. The rest is history.
